Recently we had to shove this old electric "steeplecab" out the back of the carbarn for storage outdoors. Since we just acquired a donated 4 wheel older trolley from Portugal,[id=173228025].....that needed shelter more than the loco.,we were out of room. The loco was stripped down quite a bit and in the process of restoration and the (lack of) paint was terrible. So we built a new temp. roof for it and prepped and painted it shiny black and out the door she went. The Oregon rain is now beading up on the new paint job nicely. The loco. was built in 1903 and has 4, 25hp. 600 volt D.C. motors. It weighs 30 tons and it started service on the Missoula, MT. Street Railway and later ran as a switcher at the Anaconda Black Eagle smelter in Great Falls MT. In the 1980's Great Falls businessman Frank Weissman, very generously donated 4 of these electrics of different types to the Museum. We have a 40 ton loco. that is a running workhorse and a 25 ton loco. awaiting restoration also. At the Oregon Electric Railway Museum, Brooks Oregon. |
