I aquired this insulator in a box lot (glass and mud mix) from an estate sale today. Just wondering if anyone can tell me more about it? Is it considered modern? Would this be a two-piece? (Note line that goes all the way around the top right above the wire ridge). It stands just over 5.25" tall and is 3.75" across the base. The embossing is very hard to read on this one. I think it says: Fskirt: AE Co INC/ something I can't read...Rskirt: PAT. PENDG. inside an oval. (see other photo posted ) Also, the bottom of the insulator is unlike any others I've seen, with wires coming out from four porcelain pieces molded into the base. (see other photo posted) It still has threads inside for a post. I'm also curious as to an approximate value on this?...I paid .20 (yes, 20 cents) for this today! Sorry this is sideways! I forgot to rotate it... An update including answer: This is called a "dry spot" insulator. Fairly common, with the white ones being rarer. A couple of different companies made these. Basically, the top section twists off, much like a jar lid, and this is where you will find the wires for this insulator. Viola! A dry spot! Again, I must say, many, many thanks to all for sharing their wealth of information with me! |
