This is a really strange tie! The line builder aparently knocked the dome off a CD 138 Postal, and used it as a spool! It was tied to a tree in the Sierras, with a long tail that connected to the line wire (on the right). Unfortunately, the fragile skirt of the CD 138 was never meant for the sideways pull of the tail wire, so it broke, nearly allowing the anchor wire to touch the tail wire. I also found CD 141's on this line, also with the domes knocked out. Digging around below one of the trees I actually found one of the knocked off domes, so the insulators were "modified" in the field! |
