You wonder where all the soot accumulation on insulators comes from ? Well, in years past, steam engines with long freights or passenger trains rolled by on a regular basis throwing out great plumes of smoke and cinders. Thus being the culprits of the sooty glass. Here we see Southern #2716 (nee C&O #2716) coming upgrade with a load of passenger cars. October 1981.
