An early snowstorm caught 484 and the regularly scheduled westbound passenger train at the Cumbres summit this fall. Cumbres is so steep that you can really see the tracks slope off in each direction from right here. Beyond the water plug to the left, one can make out part of the snow shed that covered the wye track used for turning the rotary snowplows from the 1890's to the end of revenue operations in 1968. |
