This little restored kettle plies the rails of the Port of Tillamook Bay R.R. on weekends during the summer season. It is shown here at Rockaway Beach waiting for the 4 mile return trip to Garibaldi in reverse. The loco was formerly used in logging service and I am sure you will note the unusual V-2 cylinder arrangement. Known as a Heisler it worked along with the more common style of gear driven logging locos known as Shays. I took this photo with the mighty Pacific surf right behind me. In fact, you can see beach sand in the right center of the photo, it is that close. |
