How did we choose this number? It was computed from the opening price of the Toronto Stock Market on January 15, 2007 which was $12,696.92 or 1,269,692 in cents.

Raffle ticket numbers 1000 through 3042 were sold, which is a total of 2043 tickets (3042 - 1000 + 1). You take the remainder of 1,269,692 divided by 2043 which gives you a number between 0 and 2042 which is 989. You add 1000 to that which gives a number between 1000 and 3042. Thus the winning ticket number is 1989 !!

Why was the opening price of the Toronto Stock Market used? Because the US markets are closed on Monday, January 15, 2007 in observance of Martin Luther King day.
