The high desert vegetation is very scrubby and the trees are twisted and gnarled. Trees could have been harvested from the higher elevations, but they were probably used to build houses instead of telegraph poles. The installers of this telegraph line probably made do with what was locally available. The taller pole is probably a re-creation, but the shorter one is an original. 9/11/04-- Steve Kelly who hunts the military telegraph lines believes the exhibited pole, pin and wire are probably part of a latter day rancher's line. He says the original parts of the line he has found consisted of the red pins used by EC&M and were nailed to Pine or Juniper trees. Next picture [id=98150737] |
