Here is an extreme alteration of an Am Tel & Tel Co. CD 121 toll insulator. The insulator was heated to a high temperature and then rapidly cooled, probably by dropping it in a bucket of cold water, to obtain this crackled glass appearance. In this particular case the crackling is just on the inside of the glass. The outside and inside surfaces of the glass are smooth to the touch.
