These Composite insulators were used by the Australian Defense Force at Maralinga during one of our country's darkest ages, when Britain actively used Australian soil and people, to conduct its nuclear testing program during the 1950's and 1960's. These insulators were used solely for military use and ones found from Maralinga are extremely rare due to limited production, and the fact that the remaining numbers are in most cases, impossible to track down, due to the fact that many areas in the vicinity of Maralinga are still contaminated with extremely hazardous radioactive material, due to deposits of plutonium in the surrounding landscape, plutonium being the most toxic element known to humans.
