This is a MLOD CD 127 embossed "W. Brookfield 55 Fulton St." on the front dome and "Pat April 4, 1871" on the back dome. The color is a beautiful deep blue with amber and milk swirls. Although there is one mould variant (see [id=82134430]) with has a lower wire groove lip, all the CD 127 Brookfield's with April 1871 dates found in Georgia were "knob" domes. CD 127 Brookfield April dates were found on the Central of Georgia Railway telegraph line which ran South from Macon, GA to Albany, GA. Both the April 71 and April 70 dates were well distributed with the largest concentration found South of Smithville, GA. Although not common compared to the CD 127 W.U.T. Co's., which were present in the multiple 1000's, I was lucky enough to find around 30+ of the various April dates. I have mould marks 2 (most common mould mark), mould mark 6, and mould mark 7 (has a slash line through the upper part of the 7). I've often wonders which were made first - the CD 127 W.U.T's or the CD 127 Brookfield April dates? Typically, the CD 127 April dates are very heavy and crude with milk, cull stones, and amber swirls while the CD 127 W.U.T. Brookfield's are clean and well made except for leaners. I'm going to guess and say that the April dates were manufactured before the CD 127 W.U.T. went into mass production for Western Union. If anyone knows the answer, I would very much like to hear from you.
