This is a CD 125 embossed "Hemingray / W.U. No. 5" on the front skirt and "Patent / May 2, 1893" in a nice medium to dark purple color with some sage tones. This insulator has very small SDP's. In addition, this is a "leaner" - it's not the photo. I kept this one because it was a darker color and had more character. A few of these were found on the Central of Georgia Railway telegraph line South of Fort Valley, GA. It is of interest to note that none of the common CD 125 Hemingray / W.U. No. 5 insulators in shade of aqua were found on the line. Like the CD 125 Hemingray No. 15, I suspect the SCA units were used as replacement on the Western Union line. I would be interested in knowing which came first - the Hemingray No. 15 or the Hemingray No. 5 styles? |
