CD 158.9 was made based on the Auguste J. Hauty patent No. 490,560 granted on January 24, 1893. One third of the patent rights were assigned to John Burke. Hauty lived in Saltsburg, PA. This was a self-tying screw-top style where the line wire was secured by screwing a threaded cap on the top of the insulator. The cap could be either glass or metal, the former being preferred for its cheapness. The way it was described for the insulator to be installed was first secure the pin. Then insert the wire in the slot of the top cap. Then the inner cap (CD 158.9) would be place on the pin with the cap held on top. By turning the inner cap, both the inner cap would be screwed down on the pin and the outer cap would be screwed down on the inner cap to secure the wire. |
