I believe this is a transformer bushing. It measures 7" in length by about 2-1/2" in diameter. In addition to its unusual olive green color, the glass is afflicted with an unusual surface ailment of scaly roughness. Even after a 3-day soaking in concentrated muriatic (hydrochloric) acid, the condition persists -- although when wet, the problem seems to vanish. Seller reports that this piece was recovered from a dump after years of burial. I always thought that "sick glass" was a surface deterioration resulting in a cloudy or foggy appearance, but this seems to be much more extreme. Any info or comments? |
