I just purchased these two pieces from a fellow in South Dakota. I hope you enjoy the pictures and story from the previous owner...... My dad recently passed away, and we have been cleaning out their house and sheds. We came across a couple logs that he had saved; which made us wonder why these two logs were stored in the shed, rather than out in the woodpile. We understood, though, when we looked closer and found embedded in the wood, an insulator which the tree had totally grown around. This insulator is of ceramic with a brown glaze. He, of course, found it while chopping wood, since there was no visible sign that there was anything inside the log. In the basement, we found 10 old telephone insulators, of different sizes, glass color, or made of other materials, which we divided up among us siblings. He told us of how when he was younger, kids used those insulators for target practice! Later he regretted it and collected any he could find. Jim |
